How to make your website ready for AI agents

Your website was built for a person scrolling on a phone. When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, or Google AI Mode about your business, AI agents read your website on their behalf.

You do not need to redesign your website. Your webpages need to state what you sell in plain words, plus a small set of standard files that tell AI tools where to look. Why agent-readiness matters now has the public numbers if you want the market context first.

Start with the pages you already have

Picture training a new hire. They need to know what you sell, what it costs, how to book or call, and where you work. Put that same information in the text on your site, not only in a brochure download or a popup.

AI readers skip a lot of what humans notice. A price that appears only on hover often never gets read. A contact form with icon-only fields is guesswork. Name each section with a real heading. Label every form field in words. Write buttons that say what happens next, such as Book a visit or Request a quote.

AgentReadyWebsite does not rebuild your theme for this. We add files next to the site you already run.

Add the standard files AI tools look for

Think of a short answer sheet posted at a familiar address. llms.txt is foundational for agent-readiness. It lives at the top of your site and summarizes what you do before an agent reads every menu and banner.

A complete setup is 13 files: crawl rules, a page list, structured facts about the business, one canonical briefing page, and permission files in a .well-known folder. After you install them, link to those files from your site so agents can find them from a page they already opened.

Google Search has said these files are not required for AI Overviews or AI Mode and are not ranking signals. They help agents that already reached your site understand you accurately. Companies like Ramp and SerpApi wrote up what changed when they published for agents. More walkthroughs sit on the case studies page.

Every file has a plain-English page on the agent-readiness package. Use the list below when you want detail on one file without reading the whole package at once.

Make the next step obvious

Understanding your offer is only half the job. Someone still has to book the appointment, request the quote, or complete the purchase. Keep that path as a straight series of labeled fields on the page.

The package also includes files that say what an agent may do on your site, whether you sell online, and whether you publish a public API. Those pieces are newer. Each education page above walks through what it does today without assuming you write code.

Chrome Lighthouse can flag a missing llms.txt file. Cloudflare's free scanner checks a different mix of signals. Read how that scanner compares with ours before you treat two scores as the same grade.

When you want one report on the full package, run our free Pre-Check. You get an Agent Readiness Score from 0 to 100, four dimension scores, and a list of missing files. No signup. Our crawler identifies itself as AgentReadyWebsiteBot and reads public files only.

If you want the files built for you

You can maintain these files yourself when someone on your team will keep them current. Most owners prefer a zip built from their live public pages, uploaded once, with a check that the files stay live.

AgentReadyWebsite emails 13 customized files plus install instructions. You upload them to your site root and .well-known folder. On most sites that takes 5 to 10 minutes. WordPress sites can use our free installer plugin. Walk through the steps on How it works.

Prices are one-time: Basic $199, Medium $599, Complex $1,399, by page count. Basic covers up to 50 pages, Medium covers 51 to 500 pages, and Complex starts at 501 pages. See pricing on the homepage.

The purchase includes 12-month Domain Watch. We verify the files stay hosted and current as your website and industry standards change. We email you monthly, and also when something material occurs. You can opt out at any time. Details are in the Domain Watch FAQ.

Shopify, Squarespace, and Wix are coming soon. Pre-Check holds an early-access spot. We are not AgentReady.org or a Shopify app with a similar name. See the naming FAQ.

What this work is for

These files help an AI agent that has already reached your site understand the business. They do not improve Google rankings, AI Overview inclusion, or AI Mode placement. Google has said AI Overviews and AI Mode do not require llms.txt or other AI-only markup.

Some agencies sell GEO, AEO, or AIO retainers for ongoing content and visibility work. We sell the files plus Domain Watch. Read the ranking FAQ and the agency FAQ.
